With Ulysses 22, we welcome a new member to the Ulysses publishing family: Micro.blog! If you’ve never heard about the service, it’s about time.
Micro.blog is a service for independent microblogging. Microblogging is like blogging, but smaller 😉 Seriously, the term refers to two things: The first being a solution that’s more lightweight than, for example, WordPress, and second, for the reduced lengths of blog posts. However, on Micro.blog, you’ll find them all: short posts, long posts, photo posts, status updates and posts that are simply just a single thought shared with the world, which is why the service is sometimes compared to Twitter. Independent means independent of the large social media networks: users own their content as they publish it on their own site, and they can do with it whatever they desire.
Micro.blog’s mission is based on a problem stated on their landing page: “Today's social networks are broken. Ads are everywhere. Hate and harassment are too common. Fake news spreads unchecked.” They set out to offer an alternative – “a safe community for microbloggers”. On the platform, there are replies, conversations, and a timeline to follow friends, but no ads and no algorithms that influence the content you’ll see. At the same time, Micro.blog users do have the option to cross post their content to other platforms like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, where it will find a larger audience. The advantage: They still control their content, and, while posting, are not exposed to the social network’s distractions and temptations.
The new Ulysses version has added the option to publish texts to Micro.blog. As a Micro.blog user, the only thing you’ve got to do is connect your account with Ulysses once. Then you’ll be able to upload posts to your Micro.blog account conveniently from within Ulysses, complete with images and categories. Follow the steps outlined in our tutorial, and you’ll see how simple it is. Micro.blog founder Manton Reece, who uses Ulysses for writing himself, has already tried it out: “The integration to publish directly to Micro.blog is perfect, skipping the need to copy/paste or export text between apps.”
So, why don’t you give publishing to Micro.blog a try? It’s fun!
